By-Law Enforcement and Animal Control Services

By-Law Enforcement Officer

A By-law Officer is a public official employed by a municipality to enforce local regulations related to community safety, property standards, parking, noise, business licensing, zoning, animal control, and other civic rules. They investigate complaints, issue warnings or fines, educate the public on local bylaws, and work to maintain orderly, safe, and livable communities

Animal Control Officers (ACO's)

An Animal Control Officer is a municipal or county officer who responds to animal-related complaints, enforces animal welfare and ownership laws, captures stray or dangerous animals, investigates neglect or cruelty cases, and ensures public safety involving domestic or wild animals. They often work closely with shelters, veterinarians, law enforcement, and the public to promote responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals.

Traffic Specialists

A Traffic Specialist is a municipal enforcement officer responsible for interpreting, enforcing, and educating the public on local traffic and parking bylaws. Their duties often include monitoring parking compliance, issuing tickets, responding to traffic-related complaints, assisting with traffic control during events or emergencies, and supporting road safety initiatives. Unlike police officers, they enforce municipal regulations rather than provincial or criminal laws.
